MAA 76th Annual Conference April 2027 – Glasgow

Venue: The conference will be held in the historic city of Glasgow, at the University of Glasgow Anatomy Department and Anatomy Museum. Including a visit to the Hunterian Museum. There will be a visit to view the Royal College of Physicians’ heritage collections, including William McEwan and The Birds of America Book by John James Audubon

The conference: Glasgow’s has a rich medical and artistic heritage while also looking ahead to the evolving landscape of image creation, communication, and healthcare. This will include the role of traditional anatomical illustration in contemporary practice, the influence of historical collections on modern visual storytelling, and the use of emerging digital tools. We aim to create a programme that celebrates both the craft and history of medical art and the innovative approaches shaping its future.

Member speakers: We have a few slots available and would love to hear from you, especially if you have not spoken at a conference before; we encourage you to do so. We would love to hear about your work, a specific project, or an area of medical art you are passionate about. We would like to invite you to contribute and submit a speaker proposal for our next conference in April 2027. Session presentations may be within a 15-, 20-, or 30-minute timeframe, allowing time for questions and speaker changeover. Please submit a short, max 50-word abstract summarising your proposed talk.

Student presentations: There will be time available for a selection of ten-minute student presentations; we would love to hear about your current projects.

Poster exhibits: We would like to include a display of your posters. These may be related to your current artwork, or to your related medical or scientific illustration projects or coursework.

Medical artwork exhibition: This will be a digital exhibition, and information will be sent out with the programme in the autumn, with an entry deadline of mid-March 2027.
