Sculptor and MAA Member Eleanor Crook will be in Brooklyn, New York, USA for a rare visit as part of Morbid Anatomy’s Weekend, and will teach a live class in her speciality, the modeling and painting in wax of anatomy. What more suited to the spirit of our gathering than to make our own Wax Anatomical Venus?
The class will include an illustrated talk on the Venuses, and a lesson in the anatomy you will need to model the organs. The techniques and materials you will learn, researched by Eleanor in her role as museum conservator of historic waxes as well as maker of new ones, will bring your anatomy to life, ending with a model you can take home and put on a cushion in a crystal coffin or glass box as a memento of our meeting and of mortality. No experience necessary, just an enthusiasm for making, a steady hand and some patience! The techniques are applicable to many tasks in sculpture, oil painting, special effects, cookery and doll making.
All materials and tools will be provided and you will receive practical information after signing up.
