Dr Joanna Butler
Biography
Joanna is a specialist in 2D medical and scientific illustration. The purpose is to translate complex anatomical and physiological concepts into clear, visually engaging illustrations using a unique blend of artistry and scientific knowledge. Joanna works on a commission basis creating art that can be used for health, medical, academic and science education.
Most recent career development has been the completion of a Ph.D. at Surrey University, UK. This practise based Ph.D. involved the research of neglected tropical diseases of the skin (skin NTDs), along side the creation of medical illustrations of Buruli ulcer (BU) and yaws which are the world's first clinical approved illustrations. These medical illustrations are used in rural clinics in Ghana, Africa as visual tools to enhance disease detection and to provide patient education communications.
