Debbie Maizels
Biography
30 years' experience in the research and creation of original illustrations for publishing and academic clients worldwide in all fields of life, veterinary, medical and earth sciences. I am passionate about making scientific information accessible in a visually interesting, original and stimulating way whilst maintaining 100% accuracy.
Special interests include biology, molecular and cell biology, veterinary and medical science, zoology, botany, ecology and palaeontology.
My first degree was a BSc Jt Hons in Botany and Zoology (1990) followed by a BA Hons in Scientific Illustration (1994). From 2000-2005 I held a part-time position at Nature Publishing Group, London as an in-house scientific illustrator and I continue to freelance for them now amongst many other clients in the UK, US and Europe. In 2002 I was awarded a 1-year artists’ residency at the Grant Museum of Zoology, University College London. In 1993 I had an internship at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. In 2015 I was awarded the Pat Archer Award for my entry in the MAA exhibition of members’ work.
