Ruth Eaves

I am the current Chairman Elect of the MAA and I have been working at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust as the medical artist since 1995. There I have developed working relationships with surgeons and clinicians from all around the Northwest region and further afield. I became the Medical Illustration Manager at Bolton in 2006 and I’m very proud to lead the department and still be able to undertake medical art commissions.

I gained my PhD in 2025, my thesis is entitled 'Developing New Knowledge Relating to the Cauda Equina and the Management of Cauda Equina Syndrome in an Illustrative Form'. This includes the development of patient cue cards which have been translated into 34 different languages across the world and a detailed illustration of the cauda equina which was carefully and ethically researched using cadaveric specimens. The illustration has won numerous prizes and has been published.

I have recently been working on illustrations for a series of radiology publications, some of which have also won prizes.
